Since Canadians and Americans are celebrating who they are as nations it seems apropos to focus on how we show appreciation for all the good things in our lives.  When we celebrate we affirm our faith and joy in Life.

Traditionally we celebrate significant events such as birthdays and weddings.

We also mark important occasions such as death and this can be viewed as a celebration of the life that was lived.  We celebrate major changes such as moving to a new home, starting a new job or retirement.  All these are births and deaths at the same time.  The end of one phase in life heralds the beginning of the next.

We celebrate achievements – a child’s first step, graduation, completing a marathon, writing a book.

But we often neglect to honour those little achievements and joys along the way to the end goal.  For every major achievement there are steps taken and each mini goal can be cause for raising a toast as well.  When we celebrate we acknowledge our self worth and capabilities.

Do you celebrate those little joys and events throughout your day?  Just waking up each morning is cause to be joyful.  Celebrate by taking a deep, full breath of fresh air and stretching luxuriously.  It’s so good to be alive!

A celebration can help us focus on the good in our lives and in so doing lifts our spirits higher.  If you’re feeling a bit down find something to celebrate and a way to express your happiness.  If you’re delighted that the sun is shining celebrate that!

What are you celebrating today?
