What is it We are Healing?
We’ve been seeing these parts of self that seem to think, feel and act in negative ways and we don’t quite know what to do about them. Why do they exist and why do they exhibit these tendencies? In some instances we can say they “mess up” our lives especially if we act from this negativity. We’ve all said and done things in the heat of the moment that have had unfortunate repercussions.
We Are Not These Negative Parts
We can explain these as Ways of Being that developed in response to a child’s confusion or misinterpretation about what was happening in her world. Let’s call them Child Fragments. In a sense they are immature parts of self that ‘broke off’ and did not grow up and so are still thinking, feeling and acting like that child at that age. Perhaps some of us have witnessed an adult having a two year old’s tantrum or maybe we’ve been the adult having a tantrum.
Three Things are Important Here
- these child fragments are not who we are – they do not represent us
- they do not need judging or punishment – they need our understanding and they need to be lovingly cared for and integrated so they can heal and mature
- each of us must heal our fragmented selves – no one else can do this for you however others can support and guide you in the process
