Don’t Believe It!

As we continue to get to know ourselves we start to narrow some things down or see the root of things.  One specific avenue we can look down is Beliefs.

We all have beliefs.  When we have opinions about something they’re generally attached to some belief or set of beliefs.  Our beliefs can originate with our conditioning.  We usually start out by believing what our parents tell us is true.  At some point we might reject the beliefs we grew up with and replace them with others.

Beliefs are linked to our thoughts and these thoughts can bring up feelings.  In other words they have an energetic signature.  We can become very attached to beliefs and we can hold some beliefs so dear that they can bring up deep emotional charges.

Many beliefs we have can be subconscious.  They can have originated in us when we are very young and can be part of a wounded self’s beliefs.  These beliefs can be especially charged. Many beliefs limit us.  They can keep us stuck in an energetic vortex.

Is It True?

A wise person has said,

“Don’t believe anything.  Don’t believe me.  Don’t even believe yourself.”

Question everything!

We must know for ourselves what is true and we must continue to question what we have accepted as true since today it may be true but tomorrow it may not.

Try This

We have beliefs about everything.  We can take any topic and list all our beliefs on that topic.

Try some on this list and add your own:

  • food,
  • clothing,
  • physical appearance,
  • money,
  • work,
  • masculinity or what it is to be a man,
  • femininity or what it is to be a woman,
  • marriage,
  • crime,
  • punishment,
  • spirituality
  • etc.

I just want to say.. How” timely” for me for your discussion on our brief system! I am justyself starting to think and challenge that to help me overcome fears and limitations in my life.

The short excercise you presented with a list of things to look at and respond with our beliefs attached to that was very simple and thought provoking!

  2. I still don’t trust anyone over 30 :-)….
